Hello everyone! After a series of recent disappointments with different projects one after another, I came up with a somewhat crazy idea — to create my own project.
A place where the server won’t exist purely for profit or be ruined by corruption. Of course, if the server ever becomes truly popular (500+ players or more), things might evolve naturally, but that’s not the goal.
I want to treat this server as a hobby project.
My goal is to bring together all the ideas I’ve accumulated over more than 20 years of playing this game, and create a world where people can simply log in after work, relax, and feel the nostalgia of the game we all love.
A place where the open world actually matters, where everyone can find something to do — not just endless PvP grinding or buying gear only to upgrade item levels.
A little background.
Many years ago I had access to an old server called “Piratia Karelii.”
When the original owner no longer wanted to maintain it, the server was passed to me since I was one of the most active players.
Later the server was renamed “Games of the Gods.”
It had no donations, and it was focused mostly on fun PvP.
It survived for about 3–6 months.
My knowledge at the time was honestly very limited.
I managed to launch the server, experimented with quests, edited some items, and tried to modify different systems — but overall my experience was basic.
Now my mindset is completely different.
I work offshore, away from land, and I’m ready to dedicate a lot of my free time and personal resources to developing this project as a hobby.
My plan is to work mostly on my own and learn everything step by step.
If something is unclear — I will study it.
If I cannot do something myself — I’m ready to hire people and pay for their work.
I’m in this for the long run.
This is something I want to build for joy and passion, not for profit.
If there are people here who share a similar mindset — people who are not chasing fame or quick success (which may or may not ever happen), but simply enjoy learning, experimenting, building systems, playing, and creating something together — I would be very happy to meet you.
And by the way — it doesn’t matter to me whether you speak Russian or English.
If your heart is in the same place and this project feels like a childhood dream, just like it does for me — you are welcome to join the discussion.
Some of the ideas I’ve already tried to prototype and discussed with experienced developers seem technically possible.
And I have hundreds of ideas.
In the right hands, with enough passion, they can be implemented. Maybe not quickly — but eventually.
The most important thing is that the journey comes from love for the game, not from a desire for power or money.
Maybe this sounds naive.
Maybe it sounds childish.
Maybe even a bit foolish.
And maybe nothing will come out of it.
But I’m here, and I’m willing to try.
If anyone feels the same way — feel free to reach out and let’s talk.
Right now I’m currently at sea, so I’m not on land.
In the next few days I plan to start experimenting with a 2+ patch version, since visually the old 1.36 client already feels outdated after playing newer versions.
So if anyone is interested — we could try building something together.
If not - I’ll do this alone ![]()

Or leave your contact information and I’ll reach out to you.
And just to clarify one thing:
I’m not looking for someone with advanced knowledge to do everything for me for free while I run the server on their shoulders.
I’m ready to work on this project myself.
But I would be glad to learn, discuss, and exchange ideas with people who share the same passion and goal.
Thank you all for your time. ![]()

Oh yeah! We’re on the same wavelength right now! I’m from Thailand, and I’ve been playing this game since I was a kid. It’s called “Pirate King Online,” and I’ve been playing it since it was first released in Thailand, like a day one. I love this game so much, not because it has the best visuals or the best engine at the time, but because it’s my first online game ever. I never had any Thai friends to play with until I found a custom private server created by Thai people who also love this game. They’re a small community of maybe 40 to 100 players. Finally they closed the server after a few months.
.
I felt so empty and lifeless when I wasn’t playing this game. Then, suddenly, I felt like I had to do something about these feelings. So, I decided to create my own private server but when I first started, it was really hard for me to open the server, and I gave up because I lacked understanding of development stuff and I wasn’t fluent in English. Now, I’m in my thirties and I became a programmer and started to understand the patterns and methods of game development. The fact that there’s AI nowadays could help me makes me feel even more excited.
.
I hope that everyone who plays this game can understand the feeling of opening the game, logging in, playing with Mordo (just let the time pass), do “Slash” on the dumb plant lv1 in front of Argent City to measure how I am strong LOL, and then just head to bed. It’s a simple pleasure, but it’s the best feeling in the world. Thank you for the topic, to share my feelings, and I hope that one day my programming skills will be able to help everyone who loves this game in the future. (Hope so)
.
Note: This is my first day on the new pkodev.com, and I’m so grateful that we still love this game.

Hello!
Yes, it’s an unforgettable feeling.
A long time ago, I had my own server, version 1.36 — that was about 20 years ago. Back then, it was enough to change or add just a few things. It was simple, even without much knowledge.
Now technology has moved forward, just like servers with all their new features. The base is still somewhat the same, but the amount of work has increased a lot.
Before, it didn’t take much to figure things out and attract players. Now, it all depends on how much effort and creativity you put into it — that’s what determines whether players will enjoy it or not.
There are many people here who already have their own servers. They keep working on them over and over again — mostly for enjoyment. And yes, I feel that enjoyment too. I also like playing on my own server. But it’s always better when you’re not alone there.
And to attract even a few people — even your friends — takes a lot of effort.
As one developer and server owner from this forum once told me:
“ You don’t have to be a programmer to understand and modify the game.”
— PiratiaTech Admin. Golden words.
Anyone can create what they truly want — but it requires a lot of time and hard work. Especially when you’re a beginner and don’t have a team.
But!
There is this amazing forum. For reasons I still don’t fully understand, people here help each other — basically raising future competitors
And that’s awesome.
I’m truly grateful to this forum and to everyone who responded and helped.
Thank you for keeping places like this alive.
When I was younger, I played Diablo 2 for a long time, then MU Online, and one day I randomly discovered Tales of Pirates. At first, it seemed funny and even a bit silly — but then I fell in love with the ability to make your character truly unique.
Visual effects, wings, fairies — it’s amazing.
But again…
Now it’s really hard to do everything on your own, without knowledge. Yes, I’m learning. Yes, I understand things little by little. But it all takes time. And of course, I want everything right away — but unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that.
That’s why in the future I’m ready to pay for learning, for interesting features I want to implement, for updates, effects, and adding new monsters — if I don’t learn how to do it myself.
Is it worth it? I don’t know. But it’s worth trying.
A very long journey and a lot of hard work lie ahead of me — just to attract even a small number of players to a game where there are already many servers with better graphics and more advanced features.
The most important thing is not to burn out and not to give up on my childhood dream.
To achieve even 1/10 of what I want, with my current level of knowledge and without a team, would cost thousands and thousands of dollars.
But… I hope it’s not all for nothing.
These are no longer the carefree days of our childhood. We’re all 30+ now — with families, kids, and responsibilities.
Thank you, everyone.
I hope this forum will continue to live for a very long time.

Hello, i was also a enjoyer of the Game and i played Tales of Pirates with my Twin Brother. I just though about the game and played it last time 10 years ago. When we were young we had 2 Computers and played with 2 clients, so with 4 chars in total and could do almost anything.
15-18 years ago we wanted to see more of that game and found private Server for us.
We started with Hamachi Server and got angry older brothers told us we are breaking the computer.
I am not sure how the forum was called, but i remember Serverdev and we were with 0 knowledge into scripting and so on. We are migrants in germany with poor english and learned everything we could. We started to develop our own servers for fun and non profit, just few mall things and apps to hold server cost. But never those VIP stuff for Overpowered Equipment, just things to lower the grind.
Now i tried few Servers and i think they have potential. But like i asked in a Question section, the player base got toxic. But maybe it does not count for everyone.
I have so many though for private servers which could help and implement some scripting knowledge (only top, so not much) like doing npc, maps, qusts or try to add addons from this or other forum.
I would like to help and improve such a private Server.
